Getting the Most from Your Retail Display Dollars

How can your animal health products attract more customers in retail stores?
Whether you market your products in pet specialty stores, vet clinics, or large retailers like Target, Walmart, Tractor Supply, and Costco, how they stand out in-store can make the difference in whether your ideal customer selects your products or the competitors.

While 87% of shoppers begin their trips online, 90% of retail transactions occur in physical stores according to a study conducted by Numerator1. Consumers still value the tangible experience of interacting with products in a physical store. Brick-and-mortar stores offer immediate access to products without shipping delays, and they provide a social experience that online shopping cannot replicate.

Since brick-and-mortar retail is far from dead, how your product is displayed can be a significant factor in driving your sales. As a custom display design + build company located in the KC Animal Health Corridor, we'd like to offer some tips on how to break through the noise in retail stores and attract ideal customers.

We work with local and national animal health brands to design and build retail displays. We take brand marketers’ display ideas through a rigorous design and prototyping process, then on to manufacturing, fulfillment, kitting, and delivery to stores. We've been a one-stop-shop for brands wanting to stand-out in-store for more than 100 years.

From guidelines to requirements, quantity to dates, locations to budget, we know how important it is to be extra clear on all the ins and outs of your display before the design process even starts. It's the most efficient and effective way to get your project to the finish line and into stores where your display can help make your products stand out with your target customer. Here’s what we recommend for animal health brands.

Preparing for In-Store Displays
To create effective in-store displays, consider the following factors:

  1. Brand Guidelines: Ensure that your brand guidelines align with the retailer's brand guidelines to maintain consistency and create a cohesive shopping experience.

  2. Space Requirements: Understand the space requirements for the display in-store and plan accordingly to maximize visibility and impact.

  3. Product Merchandising: Determine how many SKU’s need to be merchandized on the display and ensure that the product packaging dimensions are accurate or look at proxies instead of live product.

  4. Display Lifespan: Consider the length of time the display will be in-store and plan for replenishment inventory accordingly. Also, consider your exit strategy from endcap to inline if that is where you are located instore.

  5. Retail Store Distribution: Decide whether the displays will be shipped in bulk to you, directly to each store, or to a distribution center.

  6. Budget: Establish a budget range for the display project to ensure that all costs are accounted for.

12-Point Preparation Checklist
To help you prepare for your in-store display projects, we offer a 12-point Preparation Checklist that covers all aspects of the display process, from guidelines to requirements, quantity to dates, locations to budget. This comprehensive checklist ensures that all necessary information is gathered before the design process begins, making the project more efficient and effective.

While e-commerce continues to grow, brick-and-mortar stores remain a significant part of the retail landscape. By focusing on the design and execution of your in-store displays, your brand can attract more customers and increase sales in retail stores. By understanding consumer behavior and following a well-planned preparation checklist, your displays will stand out and effectively showcase your products.
