With COVID-19 flooding inboxes and newsfeeds, the Kansas City Area Development Council is highlighting #GoodNewsKC, and sharing stories of the ways our OneKC region is stepping up to support our community through this unprecedented time. The Rieger
The Rieger shut down its regular restaurant service completely to transition to a COVID-19 community kitchen, donating more than 10,000 meals to local families and counting. 

J. Reiger & Co.
J. Rieger & Co Distillery is distributing 1,000 bottles of “Rieger Remedy” hand sanitizer a day at pickup locations throughout the metro. In total, more than 36,000 gallons of hand sanitizer have been made. 

Dimensional Innovations
Dimensional Innovations earned a spot in Forbes for its downloadable plastic face shield design that offers a solution to the shortage of masks for medical professionals and local makers have shifted to only making face masks.

Burns & McDonnell
The Burns McDonnell Foundation announced it is donating $1.5 million to the United Way COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund. Burns & McDonnell is also matching donations from individual employee-owners, supporting their ability to make an impact within the organizations and causes they are most passionate about.

Charlie Hustle and Blue KC
Charlie Hustle partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City to run a limited batch of “Stay Home KC” shirts, promoting social distancing with the support of the Greater Kansas City Chamber; Kansas City Area Development Council; Johnson County, Kansas; Jackson County, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri. 



Greater Topeka Partnership
Greater Topeka Partnership created “Helping Others Support Topeka” (HOST) Relief Program, raising $481,000 in private funding and $1 million approved from joint city/county economic development funding for small businesses and individuals impacted by COVID-19. In addition, HOST will distribute gift cards to released workers. More than 700 displaced workers have submitted to the program, representing 40 Shawnee County employers. 

Black & Veatch
Black & Veatch teamed up with LaunchKC to create a virtual business accelerator and $250,000 grant for selected companies affected by COVID-19. 

Clara Biotech
Clara Biotech, a Lawrence-based research and product development center, is working to gain approval on therapeutic treatment to prevent disease spreads and enhance COVID-19 recovery. 

KC Film Fest International
The 2020 KC Film Fest International went online with a full virtual pass and screening schedule to celebrate local films and filmmakers. 

Protective Face Masks
Multiple local makers have shifted their regular production to make face masks, including Sandlot Goods/Made in KC, Sew KC, Rightfully Sewn and more. 

Examinetics
Examinetics, Inc., a provider of onsite occupational health services, hired a new CEO to help tackle mission-critical facilities in industries such as health care, food processing, energy and essential manufacturing. The company is also offering customized screening and surveillance services to address concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19

Test Kits
U.S. Engineering, Tradebot, Russell Stover Chocolates, MTAR and the University of Kansas Health System came together to buy 50,000 COVID-19 test kits for Kansas City.

Select Quote
Overland Park-based SelectQuote Insurance Service Inc. announced plans to hire 1,000 new sales and support associate positions this year, with the opportunity to work from home and receive average compensation of $80,000 per year

Coronavirus Relief Fund
The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, United Way of Greater Kansas City, LISC Greater Kansas City and the Mid-America Regional Council partnered with the Hall Family Foundation & the Sunderland Foundation to create a COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund

Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc.
Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc., the nation's largest cooperative food wholesaler to independently-owned grocery stores, expanded its operating hours and ramped up hiring efforts to serve the needs of teammates and member retailers. 

Creative Planning
Peter Mallouk, president and chief investment officer of Overland Park-based Creative Planning, announced that the financial planning firm donated $1 million to Harvesters.

ChowNow
Nearly 50 Kansas City area restaurants are now serving customers with support from food ordering app ChowNow as restaurants push to online ordering for survival.

#StayHomeKC
The iconic KC Heart symbolizes so much for the region, including the #StayHomeKC campaign. The icon t signaled regional unity in the face of a Kansas City-wide challenge.
