SMACNA-KC

Formation and Purpose:
SMACNA-Kansas City Chapter was founded in 1950 to address issues of member firms that impact the industry locally, nationally, and internationally. It serves members' needs to improve their competitive advantage and business environment through SMACNA construction and fabrication standards, industry education, labor relations, industry marketing, business studies, and exceptional safety training. In the political arena, SMACNA has a full-time office on Capitol Hill, which works with congressional committees.

SMACNA is a leader in writing standards, specifications, and guidelines for installations performed throughout the country and abroad. SMACNA standards and manuals address all facets of the sheet metal industry, from duct construction and installation to air pollution control, from energy recovery to roofing. SMACNA also answers several thousand technical questions annually from architects, engineers, manufacturers and government personnel.

Membership:
SMACNA Kansas City represents 90 contracting companies in both Missouri and Kansas. These contractors specialize in industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential heating, ventilating and air conditioning; architectural sheet metal; industrial sheet metal; kitchen equipment; specialty stainless steel work; manufacturing; siding and decking; testing and balancing; service; energy management and maintenance; and custom architectural ornamentation such as bronze domes on churches and other metal sculptures, artwork, and fixtures.

Economic Impact: Over 1.9 million hours worked in 2001, generating approximately $74 M. direct wages and benefits for the Kansas City economy.

Demand Metal Excellence:
Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 2 and SMACNA Kansas City have partnered to represent 70 local Sheet Metal Contractors and 1,200 skilled sheet metal professionals in Missouri and Kansas.
